Highlight and Lowlight – Week 28st of June – 4th of July

Highlight
On Saturday, the German soccer team did what no one could have imagined. They defeated Argentina 4:0. What an awesome match! We got goose gumps. On Wednesday, there is going to be the hardest challenge for the German team when they have to play against Spain- the favorite of this world championship. We are very excited but after having seen the latest match still confident that we have a chance to win.

Lowlight
Everyone of us is suffering from high temperatues which make it quite difficult to concentrate on our studies. On Saturday, when the weather brought us the hottest day of the year with 38 degrees our course was not able to relax at the beach, enjoying the warming sunbeams while playing in the water. Instead of we had to go to additional classes of Cost Accounting. It seemed to be impossible to calculate all these costs and revenues but nevertheless the pressure of the upcoming exams made us focus on the content of the lecture.

Highlight and Lowlight – Week 21st – 27th of June

Highlight
Hooray! We did it!
On Wednesday, the 23rd June the German soccer team fortunately reached the last sixteen round and a whole country was celebrating with our players in South Africa who rescued the honor of the Germans.
We beat Ghana 1-0 after a second-half goal from Mesut Oezil to win Group D and set up a second-round World Cup clash with traditional rival England.
Now it is important to keep our fingers crossed for them on Sunday afternoon.

Lowlight
The time is running!
When looking into your homework book you may have noticed that the exams are just around the corner. There is only one month left to prepare yourself for the Cost Accounting and Corporate Finance exams- not forgetting the essays, team projects and other tasks we have to manage.
If you want to pass the 2nd semester with satisfying grades now it is high time to start working hard: Say hello to exhausting night shifts!

Highlight and Lowlight – Week 14th – 20th of June

Highlight
Finally, the soccer world championship started last week on the 11th June. Everyone keenly followed the opening match of Germany against Australia which took place last Sunday. The result has been better than everyone imagined (but definitely dreamed about) 4:0 for Germany! Berlin was upside down because people were dancing through the streets celebrating our heroes in South Africa. The good mood helped us to come trough a hard week at university.

Lowlight
Unfortunately, our champions weren’t able to directly secure a place for the last 16 on Friday. We lost 0:1 against Serbia so we have to keep our fingers crossed for them on Wednesday.

During the weekend we actually wanted to go with the mood of the championship, grilling in the garden or just relaxing in the sun but the weather thwarted our plans- the weather forecast announced clouds, rain and temperatures below 15 degrees. Not only that this is again to cold for this month but also the fact that many of us will fall ill due to the temperature changes lowered our mood. So, please start your day with a hot lemonade!

Students:

“The evaluation of this questionnaire in the Apotheken Umschau told me that I’m a “Verdauungsschwächling”. Not only that this word is quite funny but also the fact that right from this moment I felt ill even if I’m in good health. I’m afraid of what they said what might happen to me and my body! I found a good reason to vote against reading!”

Highlight and Lowlight – Week 7th – 13th of June

Highlight
Additional classes on Thursday morning! Normally a reason to complain about the bulk of work we have to manage. Besides there are the high temperatures which make it even harder to concentrate and on top of that we shouldn’t forget about the the time we need to prepare ourselves for the exam.  But after 90 minutes the guest lecturer Michael von der Heydt was able to explain us important and very interesting things about investments, stocks and the risks which are associated with these activities. We were quite impressed because he managed to make the subject area comprehensible for us – clueless girls of our course. We also noticed that we should inform ourselves better about this topic because we noticed that we don’t know anything and he initiated us to become active!

Additional highlight of this day: We had no regional studies class and so we had the afternoon off to relax in the sun.

Lowlight
As students, we unfortunately cannot profit from high temperatures anymore as we used to at school. Temperatures reaching more than 30 degrees and rooms without air conditioner made it quite hard to follow the courses. We didn’t really complained about the weather but rather about the fact that we won’t have time off from school on account of excessively hot weather even if we were farther away from overhead costs and fiscal policy than ever before. Instead of we dreamed of relaxing at the beach savoring delicious cocktails.

Highlight and Lowlight – Week 31st – 6th of June

Highlight
Finally, the summer arrived in Berlin! The temperatures raised to 30 degrees and we couldn’t wait to  put on our most beautiful dresses or shorts. During the break and even after class we went out to relax at the courtyard or at the park near our school so the weekdays became very agreeable and everyone felt more relaxed.

Lowlight
We benefited from each minute we had to enjoy the warming sunbeams we didn’t expected to come out behind the dark clouds anymore this summer and absolutely nothing was able to damp our spirits! What an awesome week…
